Toronto Children’s Chorus’ Chamber Choir has been chosen as the only children’s choir from North America to perform at the 11th international Symposium on Choral Music in Barcelona, July 2017. Thirty-nine children between the ages of 12 and 16 will perform on the international stage during this prestigious festival, taking place from July 22 to 29.
As one of 24 choirs selected from across the globe, the Toronto Children’s Chorus was also chosen to be 2017 ambassadors by the International Federation for Choral Music. Universally renowned Artistic Director Elise Bradley will present a lecture, titled Choral Sound Concept: Vision, visualization and vowels at the festival.
“We are absolutely thrilled to have been selected to perform at the 11th World Symposium on Choral Music – a triennial conference that is one of the most prestigious international choral events! The choir will be sharing an eclectic array of repertoire entitled Global Illuminations – that reflect the theme Colours of Peace!” says Artistic Director Elise Bradley.
Chamber Choir is the top ensemble within the Toronto Children’s Chorus’ family of choirs. The Chorus celebrates its 40th anniversary during the 2017/18 season, and its eleventh under Artistic Director Elise Bradley. The Chorus comprises a family of choirs: KinderNotes for children ages three to six (no audition required), four Training Choirs, Main Choir (Cantare, Chorale, Chamber, and Choral Scholar levels) and Youth Choir. More than 300 choristers develop skills in vocal technique, sight-singing and music theory each year. Main Choir offers workshops and exceptional performance and recording opportunities, including with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. Chorus auditions are held in May and September.
Vancouver’s ELEKTRA Women’s Choir has also been selected to perform.
