TCC releases video of Canadian composer
Katerina Gimon’s mesmerizing composition, Earth
February 3rd, 2025
In June 2024, TCC Chamber Choir recorded Earth, part (i) of Elements by Vancouver-based composer Katerina Gimon. The singers were joined by Michael Denomme on Singing Bowl.
Elements is a set of choral works that abstractly depict the four classical elements - Earth, Air, Fire, and Water - and explore the wide range of capabilities of the human voice. A series of syllables generated through improvisation, rather than traditional text, are meant to evoke the sound and energy of each element. Part (i), Earth, is mesmerizing and atmospheric, featuring harmonic overtone singing and singing bowl.
