Music Connects: Toronto choral scene is enriched by the international connections forged by the Toronto Children’s Chorus.

Toronto Children’s Chorus (TCC) is passionate about building community through music, believing that music truly has no borders. Exchange of music, ideas, and learning is an important part of TCC’s mission for its singers, as part of the Toronto arts community, and as part of the international choral community. A number of TCC’s international exchanges include public concerts in Toronto or on tour. 2024-25 is a busy year for creating musical connections for the Toronto Children’s Chorus and for their internationally-acclaimed Artistic Director Zimfira Poloz.

In July 2024, TCC’s Chamber Choir traveled to Ljubljana, Slovenia for a concert tour that included performing with the St. Stanislav Girls' Choir from St. Stanislav's Institution

In September 2024, TCC in conjunction with UofT Choral Music, hosted a workshop with Francisco Núñez, Director of the acclaimed Young People's Chorus of New York City. Participants included University students and Ontario community conductors. Following the workshop at UofT, Francisco worked with TCC Chamber Choir.

In November 2024, educators and conductors from Conservatorio de Musica de Celaya in Mexico visited TCC, attending rehearsals and working with TCC Artistic Director Zimfira Poloz and other TCC artistic staff.

In February 2025, the St. Stanislav Youth Choir from Ljubljana, Slovenia will visit Toronto and be reunited with TCC’s Chamber Choir for an afternoon workshop and a showcase concert open to the public on February 7, 2025..

In February 2025, the St. Stanislav Youth Choir from Ljubljana, Slovenia will visit Toronto. This choir is part of the St. Stanislav Institution where TCC Chamber visited in July. They will attend an afternoon workshop with TCC Artistic Director Zimfira Poloz and present a showcase concert open to the public on February 7, 2025.

In February 2025, the Bulgarian Children’s Choir “Orpheus” from Haskovo, Bulgaria will also visit Toronto. TCC’s Chamber Choir, the St. Stanislav Youth Choir, and the Bulgarian Children’s Choir will share their music with each other and Torontonians in a public showcase concert on February 7, 2025.

In February 2025, Latin American choral music expert Dr. Cristian Grases (who earned his Master of Music from Simón Bolivar University in Caracas, Venezuela and is currently professor of choral music at USC Thornton) will visit Toronto for a week of workshops with TCC Chamber Choir and UofT choirs and conductors. He will guide them in their understanding of Latin-American approaches in music-making. The week concludes with a concert on February 27, 2025, featuring the international premiere of a work by Dr. Grases titled Earth. While in Toronto, Dr. Grases will also work with other choral organizations and schools.

In March 2025, TCC Artistic Director Zimfira Poloz will head to Cape Town, South Africa to present a master class on children’s choirs at the international Mzanzi Conductors Convention. Zimfira is internationally recognized for her wealth of expertise and her passion for nurturing young voices.

In July 2025, TCC Chamber Choir will head to British Columbia as invited Guest Choir at the international festival Choral Ḵathaumixw from July 1-5. They will present a series of concerts and have the opportunity to sing, perform, collaborate, learn, and connect with singers from around the world. Torontonians will have the opportunity to experience TCC Chamber in a Tour Send-off concert, Can You Feel It?, on June 21

In July 2025, Artistic Director Zimfria Poloz will head to Austria from July 17-20 to be a Jury Member, workshop leader, and guest conductor for the Closing Mass Choirs Concert at the World Peace Choral Festival in Vienna, Austria.
