TCC Chamber Choir presents internationally-inspired program of choral music in Toronto and then in B.C. at International Choral Kathaumixw Festival

The senior choir of the Toronto Children’s Chorus (TCC)—the internationally renowned Chamber Choir—presents its final Toronto concert of the season on June 21 at 3 pm at Eglinton St. George’s United Church in Toronto. They will then take elements of this program on tour to Vancouver and Powell River, BC where they will represent Canada as an invited guest choir at the International Choral Ḵathaumixw Festival. 

 

The concert program will sparkle with talented young voices, evocative choral music from many traditions, percussion and innovative choreography. The program features contemporary and art music from Canada, Denmark, Germany, Latvia, Malaysia, Slovenia, Syria, USA, Norway, Estonia, and Venezuela, with the Choir singing in nine different languages in addition to American Sign Language. 

 

TCC Chamber is proud to premiere new commissioned works and treble choir arrangements at this concert, part of TCC’s mission to grow choral repertoire for young voices by working with composers. 

 

The Choir of talented singers aged 12-18 is led by Artistic Director—acclaimed choral conductor and children’s choir pedagogue—Zimfira Poloz with the artistic team of . Charissa Bagan, Associate Artistic Director,  Michael Denomme, Main Choir Assistant Conductor, Dakota Scott-Digout, Collaborative Pianist, and Jamie Drake, Percussion.

Father Thunder by Laura Jekabsone. Sung in Latvian. The treble arrangement was created at the request of

Zimfira Poloz. 

Lao Rahal Soti, arranged by Shireen Abu-Khader. Sung in Arabic

Ilus Hääl by Margrit Kits, arranged by Laura Jekabsone for Treble Choir at the request of Zimfira Poloz. Sung in

Estonian

Stars by Ēriks Ešenvalds, with accompaniment of tuned wine glasses, sung in English.

Dies Irae by Jude Roldan. Sung in Latin. Canadian Premiere

Earth: 1. Core by Cristian Grases. Sung in nonsense language. TCC and UofT Choruses Commission - premiered

Ta Na Solbici by Samo Vovk. Sung in Resian (Resian is a unique Slovene dialect spoken in northeastern Italy,
